Some Ringers don't enjoy driving a tiny circuit like Donington, but I like it - you just have to treat it differently. Bugger up a corner at the Ring and it doesn't much affect your lap: At a short circuit though, everything has to be inch-perfect.
It's all about precision, and because you get another try two minutes later, you can remember your previous mistakes with better clarity.
Hitting the brakes for Old Hairpin, the pedal went to the floor. The brakes hadn't faded, but apparently they can get shaken back in the calipers (dunno how at Donington, it's a smooth track). What I should have done is pump the pedal, but I didn't - I tried to turn, got massive understeer, and went into the handy gravel trap. Amanda hadn't been in a gravel trap before, so she had a learning experience too :-)
Unlike on the road, this 100mph excursion into the scenery ended without
pain or damage - once we'd limped back to the pits and removed the gravel from
the "stone guards", we were back having fun.
