Adamanda's May 99 Ring Trip

This was our first bike trip to the Ring. Rather than ride the 800 mile round trip (which would wear most of a rear tyre) we borrowed a van. Nicknamed the "TART" (Totally Awesome Race Transporter), we found many alternative meanings of the acronym as the journey to the Ring progressed. It was awful!

We passed through some very heavy rain in Belgium, so we were at least glad that we hadn't been riding, and even though the van's electrics couldn't cope with wipers, demister and headlights together, we were at least dry. Our gladness was knocked back as we unloaded the van later that night, and discovered that the van wasn't waterproof - our leathers were soaked :-(

(By our next trip, we'd bought a trailer - which was great, except that Scooby's engine died and we had to ride home after all >:-/ )

The Ringing was fab though - I was surprised how nervous I was during my first bike lap, but by the end of the trip I was hooked: Ringing in a car is still fun of course, and better than a wet Sunday afternoon in Wolverhampton, but it's a very distant runner-up to the feelings that riding can give.
