Adamanda's Don't-Do-This-At-Home Page

Saturday August 14th, 1999: Lydden Hill

Dave's gashed leg Ixion member, compulsive bike buyer, wheely hero and supermoto racer Dave Lippett went into "sensible father" mode (for a millisecond) and stopped 9-year-old Rachel from riding her motocross bike around the paddock without gloves. Rachel didn't want to put her gloves on, so that was the end of playtime. The end for Rachel, anyway: Dave, wearing only shorts and a t-shirt, hopped on to the bike and started wheelying it up and down.
Dave's gashed leg Out of sight of the rest of us, there was a scraping noise, but Dave quickly reappeared on the bike, so we guessed it was just a rear-wheel skid. However, it turned out that Dave had looped the bike, and - to avoid damaging it - had thrown himself underneath.

There was no shortage of volunteers to help remove the gravel with wire brush and Dettol, but despite the kidding we all felt sorry for Dave. Well, I did anyway!

Why is it orange?

Not many parents would give such a graphic demonstration of what happens when you don't do what you're told :-)
